Romaji: Zekkyou/ZekkyoJapanese: 絶叫Drama: The Voice Calling Your Name (English novel title) / Scream (literal title) Director: Naruhide MizutaWriter: Aki Hamanaka (novel), Natsuko IkedaNetwork: WOWOWActors: Machiko Ono, Ken Yasuda, Manami KonishiThe first two episodes are both intense, but there is also a feeling of restraint as you could tell the emotion is slowly building up for that inevitable explosion in the end. As I watched the drama I too, wanted to scream, I wanted to release these emotions I'm holding in.I feel the main character, her will to live, her frustrations, her gasping for air, her wanting to break out. I was waiting for her to scream, but no words were coming from her mouth, at least for now.Zekkyou is such a heavy drama. The theme of "isolation" is dominant. It is everywhere in the story, from heavy dialogue, solitary death, people rejected by society, being disowned by family, etc. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); The goldfish metaphor is spot-on; it's a symbol of wealth and luck, and she's desperate for it, but like her, that goldfish is stuck in that bowl and wanted to come out. It's suffocating to watch, and the drama slowly shows you the struggles she faced in life that would lead to her descent into apparent madness. The main protagonist, Yoko, is well layered. She's not the typical good girl who turned evil because of her misfortunes in life. Yoko's inner struggles are more significant than the character we see on the surface. And it's thanks to Ono Machiko's intense portrayal. Her subtle performance is very effective as you could feel there is such restraint that she could explode any minute.I can't say the same with Ken Yasuda's, though his acting is excellent kudos to his versatility, but the character is just textbook evil no depth at all. But it's understandable since he's only a supporting character in this series, but let's see in the next episodes.Another top-notch production by WOWOW drama. Well written script, strong theme, brilliant acting, captivating cinematography, and mood evoking music. This drama is good so far.
