After his father commits suicide due to being unable to pay back the Yakuza for his dead mother’s medical bills, teenager Denji is stuck with his debt. He winds up having to hunt devils, magical beings that are powered by fear. After a fatal incident, Denji fuses with the chainsaw devil Pochiata becoming the half-human half-devil Chainsaw Man. He ends up being recruited by the Public Safety Devil Hunters, a government-run anti-devil police force consisting mostly of humans who have gained power through contracts with devils, run by the mysterious and all-controlling Makima.
