If you’re anything like us (i.e. pushing thirty or so) you will hold the voice of Brice Armstrong as an inseperable part of your childhood. He was the narrator for the English dub of Dragon Ball, and so his passing will be mourned by a legion of anime fans. Armstrong was 84 years old when he died of natural causes on January 10th. Mary Collins Agency released a statement with a few words from fellow voice actor Christopher Sabat, who said “Brice was the kindest, funniest person I’ve ever known. He was always humble, never in a bad mood–not the attitude you’d expect from such an industry legend.” Like so many of us, Armstrong clearly loved having fun in the Dragon Ball world. He dubbed several characters for the series and movies, including Captain Ginyu in Dragon Ball Z and Lord Slug in the film Dragon Ball Z: Lord Slug. He was also Tim Marcoh in Fullmetal Alchemist, and Tohru’s wise grandfather in the original Fruits Basket, as well as several voices in Detective Conan and Yu Yu Hakusho. We will miss him as an accomplished man who showed his kind, fun-loving qualities through his anime roles.
