As a couple of Fate/stay fans ourselves, we are sad to say that the passing of Fate/stay night director Yuji Yamaguchi was announced by Studio DEEN. Though their statement was made via Twitter, the tweet has since been removed without a cause of death being revealed. Of course, Yamaguchi was beloved for his work on DEEN’s 2006 anime based on the Fate/stay night visual novel from Type-Moon. He would go on to helm its 2010 follow-up film Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works, while also storyboarding and episode directing on Hajime no Ippo, Outlaw Star and Brave King GaoGaiGar Final. The excitement of the Fate/stay night anime was always palpable, and it’s safe to say that was down to Yamaguchi’s passion and skill. He will be missed by otaku everywhere, and we send our wishes to his loved ones at this time.
