It began to feel like a moral imperative to leave Spotify. The curse of knowledge about it that accrued over months and years: not paying artists even close to fairly, AI bands and ghost artists, platforming creators like Joe Rogan, CEO Daniel Ek using his considerable wealth to invest in AI drone warfare companies, or just Daniel Ek being a grade-A shit-spouting cretin. Combined with an ever increasing monthly cost and features that just didn't interest me (audiobooks, podcasts), for me the trust thermocline had been broken. Which raised the question of what, if anything, I'd replace it with.
