Kizuna Ai broke ground for the VTuber space when she debuted in 2016, earning worldwide recognition. As the VTuber-sphere expanded beyond her, the idol's virtual footprint shrank. The Kizuna no Allele anime looks to bring her to the forefront of the conversation again, but its approval-by-committee approach runs antithesis to the freedom that VTubing can bring creators.
