Seasonal Anime ImpressionsWinter 2021Part 2Am I really becoming someone who posts shitty anime review on the internet? No, these are impressions not review. Thus I am innocent on all charges. Still feels weird but at least the law is on my side. [The stuff in italics are the synopses taken straight from MAL]Tenchi Souzou Design-bu (Heaven's Design Team)"In Heaven's Animal Design Department, designers create a variety of new animals daily while contending with the unreasonable requests of their client: God. This series answers questions such as, 'Why can’t unicorns exist?', 'What makes an animal taste delicious?', 'What’s the most powerful creature in the ocean?', and, 'Bird versus snake: who would win?'"God-damn (see what I did there?????) this is really boring. There is too much unneeded exposition in the beginning and even after that is done, none of the jokes land, to the point where I'm not even sure anymore if half of them are jokes at all.If you want to learn about animals, then maybe this show is for you, they do a decent job of incorporating real facts into the design process and apparently there is also always(?) some more real-animal facts after every completed design. That's kinda neat. But just watching an animal documentary or even reading a Wikipedia would be more entertaining than watching this anime. That's really all it comes down to. The concept is cool enough and everything but the comedy is just so flat that I have trouble imagining anyone would find most of the jokes funny.Dropped after 9' - 5/10Yuru Camp△ Season 2 (Laid-Back Camp)Second season of Yuru Camp△.Ahh that was really nice. But first I have a confession to make: I know that these type of slice-of-life-y shows are almost all about character interactions and I also quite like all the other characters but I always enjoyed Rin's solo-camping to most. There is just no other anime that manage to convey that feeling even half as well. And luckily for me, we got some solo-camping in this episode and there is more to come next week. It's great. But even the character interactions this episode (though they were mostly only via texting) were very well-done and cool. This is just a good anime. Visuals and sound also work just as well as in the first season. Also this episode isn't just like "Ah, well, I'm the first episode of a second season. I can just do whatever. People are already invested". No. It's structured like a great first episode and just immediately makes you care about the characters again and doesn't begin with empty space but rather starts with a flash-back just so we can have some camping at the very start. And also it calls back to the first episode of the first season. And... man, it's just good. It's just good. Not dropped - 5/102.43: Seiin Koukou Danshi Volley-buHigh school student Kimichika Haijima moves back to his hometown, Fukui, after causing trouble in the Tokyo Junior High School volleyball club. There, he is reunited with his childhood friend, Yunii Kuroba, who possesses outstanding physical abilities, but is vulnerable under pressure. Haijima, with his overwhelming passion and talent for volleyball, forms an ace combination with Kuroba. The two enroll at Seiin High School, where they join the volleyball club. Awaiting them are the 163 cm hot-blooded captain Shinichirou Oda, the talented and sharp-tongued vice-captain Misao Aoki and his third-year pair, and second-year students, including Akito Kanno, who is always wearing long sleeves due to his allergy to sunlight. The newborn team breaks its former shell of weakness and becomes Fukui's rising star. This is a certain team's journey to victory, with a series of fascinating rivals standing in their way.Not really sure what to think about this one. What I am sure of though is that it's very much a sports anime and if you have a problem with these, this one won't change your mind; it's thoroughly steeped in the tropes of that genre.Actually that might be this anime's biggest fault so far: Looking at the big picture, there is nothing here that you haven't seen somewhere else; hell, there is little that you haven't seen in Haikyuu. The character designs aren't all that great and there isn't any breathtaking animation (yet?) either. Also the drama we already had seemed rather forced. But still, the pacing works, the Yuugo Kanno soundtrack is great and likely only to get better during intense matched and stuff (the OP and ED songs are also quite neat), the character writing can be really effective in places and the backgrounds and shot composition range from passable to real good.I doubt this anime will blow anybody's mind but it's a safe bet for a good sports anime and it might even become better than just good. Or maybe it won't.Not dropped - 5/10And those were the shows.
