During a recent livestream, SEGA announced that the anime based on the Project Sakura Wars game will premiere in April 2020. Manabu Ono of Sword Art Online: Alicization and The Asterisk War directs the anime at Sanzigen studio. Tatsuhiko Urahata is collaborating with Ono to write the scripts, after the pair have previously worked together on the Saki and Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere anime. But fans of the games will be particularly excited that Kohei Tanaka, composer for the whole Sakura Wars game franchise, is also composing the anime’s score. The Project Sakura Wars game only launches in the west in spring 2020, so if you gamers want to get caught up, you might just be able to squeeze it in before the anime airs.
