Little Amelie, or The Character of Rain - 8/10. I checked this out on a whim because I kept seeing promos for it everywhere. First of all, the movie is absolutely gorgeous, the characters are nicely developed, and I liked the overall story. But I'm not sure I like the framing device for said story. Did we really need that narration where the main character thinks she's God and all the needless religious preambles? Not to mention an early bit of info about Amelie raises way too many questions.Fureru - 4/10. God, this movie frustrated me so much. I wanted so badly to like this, but it was really held back by Mari Okada's propensity for shoehorning needless romance and misunderstandings into everything she works on, and one particular subplot just enraged me so much that I can't fathom why the movie expected me to like the characters after that. It's sad because the movie is beautifully animated and I get the message its trying to convey. Not one of Mari Okada's better works at all.Prime Rose: A Time Slip of 10,000 Years - 4/10. Yeah, this one wasn't very good either. The plot was all over the place, the characters were some combination of bland or annoying (FUCK BUNRETSU), the animation quality constantly fluctuated at times, and there was pointless sexual humor that completely clashed with the rest of the movie. I'm honestly surprised this even got an English dub, but at least that was good. The bloopers on the blu-ray are also hilarious too, but even they can't save this movie from being a trainwreck.Journey From The Fall - 7.5/10. A Vietnamese movie about a man being trapped in an internment camp and his family's attempts to escape to America and find freedom at the tail end of the Vietnam War. I actually liked this more than I thought I would considering I know nothing about Vietnamese history. The music was great, and I like that the movie had the balls to actually kill off an important character and not go the cliche route. I did find one conflict during the ending to be rather overwrought, and I didn't understand one important scene in the middle, but other than that, I enjoyed it. Plus, a shiny new blu-ray is out, so if you like it, go buy it on the MediaOCD store!
