The pandemic provided the impetus for CVS to amplify its role, focusing on delivering comprehensive vaccination options like the flu shot and providing education and resources about the safety and efficacy of vaccines. The shift has been embraced by customers. In the most recent influenza season, 64% of adult flu shots were given at pharmacies, compared with 49% in the 2019-2020 season, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. All fluvaccines in the United States will be trivalent (three component) vaccines beginning with the 2024-2025 season. For people 65 years and older, there are three fluvaccines that are preferentially recommended. Fluvaccination prevented 9.8 million illnesses; 4.8 million medical visits; 120,000 hospitalizations; and 7,900 deaths during the 2023-24 season, according tothe Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
