Netflix has announced that it will soon be streaming a near-complete library of Studio Ghibli films, but only in countries outside North America and Japan. The official Twitter for Netflix Australia and New Zealand confirmed the whole list of 21 movies arriving in February, March and April. The only missing title will be Isao Takahata’s magnum opus Grave of the Fireflies. Studio Ghibli producer Toshio Suzuki gave a statement to mark this happy moment for global Ghibli fans: In this day and age, there are various great ways a film can reach audiences. We’ve listened to our fans and have made the definitive decision to stream our film catalog. We hope people around the world will discover the world of Studio Ghibli through this experience. As for the US otaku out there, don’t be too put out. HBO announced that a full Ghibli catalogue will be available when the HBO Max streaming service launches in May 2020.
